Three cameras on the back

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ has the same camera setup as the standard 13 Pro model. There is a 200MP OIS primary, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro shooter. There is also a 16MP imager for selfies.

Daylight photo quality

The main camera saves 12.5MP photos by default, and those are great. The ones we shot on this sunny winter day turned out to have a lot of resolved detail, high contrast, accurate and lively colors, and clean of any noise. The dynamic range is not that wide, but it’s adequate for the scenes, we’d say.

Looking at 100% zoom, you can see the detail is not the most organic; sometimes, it has this washed or oily look. We’ve seen this image processing plenty of times, and while it is definitely not perfect, it is not bad either. There is definitely room for improvement, but even as it is, it is a solid job for this class.

The 2x zoomed photos are very good, as good as the default 1x ones. But the more you zoom, the more it becomes evident the artificial and smeared look of intricate objects like foliage.

At 4x zoom, there is nothing that we can describe as lossless. The photos look cropped and upscaled from the 2x ones, with poor detail, a super artificial look, and visible noise. Overall, we’d avoid shooting at 4x zoom.

The 8MP ultrawide photos are okay – they offer a good amount of resolved detail, accurate colors, and satisfactory dynamic range. They are often a bit over-exposed, though, and this is not the first time Xiaomi’s UW cameras have done this. If only they read our reviews…

The 2MP macro camera is as basic as it can get, but it will do for some Instagram posts for sure. The macro shots are colorful, with good contrasts and enough detail, plus – the dynamic range is quite good.

Macro camera

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ has a 16MP Quad-Bayer selfie camera, which saves 16MP photos. This means you get upscaled versions of the 4MP output. Well, the 1MP selfies are good, actually. While the pixel peeping does hint at the upscaling, the images still present a pleasant look with good detail, excellent exposure, superb color rendition and good dynamic range.

Low-light photo quality

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+, just like many other phones, offers auto Night mode processing in its Photo mode. It will apply whatever simulated exposure and stacking as it sees fit.

The Auto Night Mode is the default state, and we would advise leaving it as is – it rarely triggers on the primary, but almost every time on the ultrawide camera – as it does need it.

The nighttime samples from the primary camera are impressive. The photos are rich in detail, with no visible noise, nicely wide dynamic range, and likable color saturation. The highlights across all photos are handled with proficiency.

There is no lossless zoom in low-light; what you get is a crop and upscale from the standard output. This means the detail is halved, but the rest is identical.

The ultrawide photos are okay, but nothing interesting. Even with the help of Night Mode, they are still underexposed and a bit noisy. The detail is okay, and so is the color saturation.

Video recording and quality

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ supports 4K@30fps video capturing on its primary camera. The ultrawide camera maxes out at 1080p@30fps, while the 2MP macro supports 720p@30fps. Finally, 1080p at 60fps is available only on the main camera.

There is an always-on electronic stabilization working across all cameras but the macro.

Audio is always captured stereo with a 256Kbps bitrate.

The 4K videos from the main camera are great – they offer a high level of resolved detail, a pleasant overall rendition and true-to-life colors. The daylight videos are also noise-free, with high contrast and good dynamic range.

The 2x zoomed 4K videos are quite poor as far as detail is concerned – they are digitally zoomed by cropping and upscaling.

The low-light 4K videos from the main camera are very good. They are bright and colorful, with a good dynamic range and plentiful detail. They are a bit noisy, though, but nothing worrisome.

The 1080p videos from ultrawide camera are solid. They are detailed, with zero noise, accurate colors, and outstanding dynamic range.

The 1080p low-light video from this camera is okay – you can see what is on it despite the high amount of noise.

Finally, the 1080p videos from the selfie camera are quite likable. The detail is satisfactory, the noise is low, and the colors are good. The subject is well exposed in the video, though the dynamic range is a bit low, as evidenced by the clipped background.
